In Flagship we believe that increasing America’s capacity for Mandarin fluency is critical to our countries future and opens up endless educational and career opportunities for our students! The UO Chinese Flagship program accepts high achieving students from varying language entry points; ready to commit to accelerated Mandarin learning while simultaneously pursuing degree(s) in their chosen field. We seek out students from a broad range of cultural backgrounds and experiences to strengthen the learning environment for all.

If your goal is to develop professional level Mandarin communications and cultural skills specific to your academic discipline, then Chinese Flagship will serve you well.

Incoming and Transfer students:

Flagship welcomes incoming students to apply through the regular UO application cycle (November to January). Students must first apply to the University of Oregon to obtain their UO ID number - required for the Global Scholars application and language assessment log in. The priority application deadline is January 30, applications received after this are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.  

Existing UO Students: On campus students, actively enrolled in Chinese courses, may apply to Flagship at anytime. Applicants will be reviewed based on UO performance stan dards. 

Eligibility:
As an honors-level program, applicants are expected to demonstrate:

1. Academic excellence, typically assessed as GPA of 3.25 or higher
2. A passion for studying Chinese with novice-mid to advanced level Mandarin proficiency
3. Commitment to developing real-world Mandarin and cultural fluency, through everyday practice of these skills as part of their daily life on campus and overseas

Applicants complete our online application with a statement of interest, Chinese essay, teacher recommendations, and the Chinese Computerized Assessment of Proficiency (CAP). All accessible through our online aplication, at (Global Scholars Application).
