Student Opportunities
The UO Chinese Flagship Program offers regular cultural opportunities each term. We also encourage students to become involved in the campus community, particularly in ways that intersect with Chinese language and culture.
The UO is bursting with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. With hundreds of Chinese-speaking international students and hundreds more non-matriculated students studying in American English Institute programs, there are plenty of opportunities for Flagship students to use Chinese, build friends, and get involved. Banzhang 班長
Banzhang is the student leadership committee for the University of Oregon’s Chinese Flagship Program. We consist of a group of students representing all stages of the Flagship experience. Our main responsibilities are to create an environment conducive to language learning, organize events to foster an inclusive community, and recruit prospective students to attend the University. Language Circles
The UO Mills International Center hosts language circles each Monday from 6:00-7:00. Flagship students are able to meet with native Chinese-speaking peers to practice conversational speaking and listening.
Language Partners
The Yamada Language Center coordinates the Language Exchange program. Flagship students are able to meet with Chinese-speaking peers to practice conversation speaking and listening, in exchange for helping Chinese speakers practice their English skills.
Tutoring
The American English Institute offers a tutoring and conversation partner program for international students. Apply to become an AEI tutor, helping a Chinese-native speaker practice his or her English and learn about Chinese culture along the way.
Duck Corps
Duck Corps is a force of over 700 UO students committed to public service and volunteerism. Duck Corps hosts a variety of volunteer opportunities each year. Get to know a team of like-minded students as well as community organizations by learning, serving, and reflecting around a social issue area.
Holden Leadership Center and Student Governance
The Holden Leadership Center helps UO students learn to question critical, think logically, communicate clearly, act creatively, and live ethically while cultivating an attitude toward citizenship that fosters a caring, supportive atmosphere on campus. Become part of the Associate Students of the University of Oregon (ASUO) or the Residence Hall Association, participate in volunteer activities, gain leadership skills, and more through the Holden Leadership Center.
Outdoor Program
The UO Outdoor Program inspires learning through student-powered outdoor adventure. Rent bicycles, kayaks, or rafts to have your own adventure or join the Outdoor Program on a hosted exploration of all the wonderful outdoor experiences the area has to offer.
