Student Expectations
The University of Oregon Chinese Flagship Program is an honors-level program. We offer hands-on support and instruction to our students, and we value their contributions to our academic community. We take our relationship and commitment to students and their success seriously.
Reciprocally, we ask students to make a commitment to the program that is equal to our commitment to them. Upon acceptance into the program, we expect that students:
- Apply and complete a student contract with the Flagship Program, which enables them to be eligible for Flagship-related scholarships
- Fully participate in the Flagship Program by enrolling in Flagship-designated courses and joining cultural events and activities
- Make progress toward professional-level Chinese proficiency
- Commit to completing the Capstone year abroad
Once students are accepted into the program, they will receive the student contract and instructions for registering in the Language Flagship Student Certification System.
Housing
We encourage Chinese Flagship Scholars to live on the Chinese floor of the Global Scholars Hall (GSH) and to and participate in the GSH “Global Engagement” Academic Residential Community (ARC). Not all students in the Chinese section of the Global Scholars Hall are Flagship Scholars, and the Global Scholars Hall is also home to similar programs in German, French, Japanese, and Spanish.
Located on the east edge of campus, the Global Scholars Hall is co-ed by room. It is one of two communities that house a Library Commons and a full-time librarian to assist with research papers and academics. The main level of this building features classroom spaces, a demonstration kitchen, music practice rooms, and a recreation room. Learn more about UO Academic Residential Housing.
